Review: Roger McGough

Roger McGoughEvent 22, Town Hall 12 June There's nothing more guaranteed to dismiss the blues of a wet Sunday afternoon than listening to one of our finest comic poets giving forth.
Roger McGough is one of the three Merseybeat poets, along with the late Adrian Henri and Brian Patten, who visited the festival last year, who revolutionised and popularised British poetry in the 1960s.

Review: Shappi Khorsandi

Iranian-born comedian Shappi Khorsandi filled the Ceres Hall to the extent of its licence on Thursday night for her gig under the umbrella of Devizes Festival.

It is a mighty coup for the festival organisers to attract Ms Khorsandi as her star is very much on the rise after a string of successful TV appearances.

Review: What Would Helen Mirren Do?

Anita ParryEvent 7, Wharf Theatre, 5th June

Anita Parry was a huge hit at last year’s Devizes Festival free fringe but this year you would have had to pay to see her one-woman show, What Would Helen Mirren Do?
She brought the show to the Wharf Theatre on Sunday night and, unsurprisingly, played to a full house.
She takes the role of Susan Butterworth, a member of staff at a supermarket in Oldham, who is offered the chance to rise to the role of supervisor.
