Sheer Music and Devizes Festival Present DEVIZES LIVE, Event 29, Corn Exchange Friday 17 June 2011, 7pm
Devizes based promoters, Sheer Music have teamed up with Devizes Festival for the 6th year running to present the annual Battle of the Bands, renamed “Devizes Showcase” gig.
Replacing the old style battle of the bands, Kieran Moore, Sheer Music’s promoter said that “We have too many good quality bands of a certain stature to warrant a battle style event. Some of these bands have won the event in the past, and now due to the new rehearsel rooms Warehouse Studio based on Hopton Industrial Estate, the calibre of bands being produced is too high”
Bands for this years gigs were cherry picked from Sheer Musics Spring programme, with the local acts supporting national touring acts or in some cases, international touring acts, resulting in what could be desribed as the strongest gig line up in the county. Two of these acts, Chippenham based rapper Liveo and Melksham indie boys Street Orphans reached the regional finals of live and unsigned – so we’re talking a high quality of band.
In a slight change to the printed lineup, Devizes legends Quarterblind had to pull out due to drummer issues, but were replaced with Download Festival 2011 veterans, The Dead Lay Waiting, who are set to headline. Kieran also said, “To have an exciting up and coming act like Dead Lay Waiting is really significant for Devizes and our future shows. The band are up for gongs at the Kerrang! and Metal Hammer annual awards down for Best New Comer and Best Underground act respectivly, and played Download Festival this year”
The other headliner of the night is Bristol based hip hop rapper, Kid Carpet, who recently made the sound track to indepentdent UK film, Repo Chic, follow up to cult UK film, Repo Man. Kid’s new album has been released by Dan La Sac of the Scroobius Pip fame, and is another heavy weight UK act to hit Devizes.
More excitement is promised on the night with Devizes rapper Chip Daddy, promising a special guest during his performance, rumour has it it’s an ex-Big Brother contestant too.
Due to the strong line up, it is advised to by tickets in advance for the gig, as spaces are limited, tickets can be bought in advance from Devizes Books for £6 each. Note this gig is an all age gig, and there will be something for everyone, so please feel free to encourage younger teenagers to come to the show.
Doors are 6.30pm with the first act getting onstage at 7pm. Night is scheduled to end at 10.45pm.
